The municipality of Turda is implementing, starting with 24.04.2018 the project “Rehabilitation and modernization of road infrastructure and road utilities in Băile Turda”, a project funded under the Regional Operational Program 2014 – 2020, Priority Axis 7 – “Diversification of local economies by sustainable development of tourism ”, Investment Priority 7.1 -“ Supporting employment-friendly growth, by developing endogenous potential as part of a territorial strategy for certain areas, including the conversion of declining industrial regions, and increasing accessibility and development of specific natural and cultural resources ”, having a total value of 22,550,603.74 lei.

The general objective of the project consists in the economic growth of the balneoclimatic tourist resort Băile Turda, an area with a valuable tourist potential, in order to increase the attractiveness of the tourist area, the number of tourists interested in both health and recreation tourism.

Băile Turda has acquired the status of a balneoclimatic resort based on the Government Decision no. 926 of December 8, 2016 for completing the annex no. 1 to the Government Decision no. 1016/2011 on granting the status of spa and balneoclimatic resort for some localities and areas that have natural healing factors.
The exploitation of the spa potential of Turda started in the 19th century when, at the initiative and perseverance of Dr. Iosif Hanko, the spa resort of Turda was established, today Băile Turda.

During the period when the problem of setting up the spa resort was raised, the salt lakes in the Durgău – Valea Sărată area existed, but on the north-western slope of the valley, the salt exploitation was still operating. Therefore, Dr. I. Hanko’s attention was directed to the other salt area located about 1.5 km east of the Durgău area.
Around 1840, Dr. Iosif Hanko, understanding the therapeutic role of salt baths and the possibilities of using lakes for this purpose, tried to make available to the local population, the rich natural therapeutic resources of the area.

Within the Băile Turda resort, the therapeutic mineral resources are concentrated in two distinct areas, territorially associated with the perimeters where the salt deposits are located. The two areas are known under the toponyms Băile Sărate, respectively Durgău – Valea Sărată.

Between the two areas and south of them, the residential area of the resort develops.
Referring to the spa potential of the resort, specialists from the National Institute of Physical Medicine, Balneology and Medical Recovery – Bucharest made the following statement: “… Turda has the most complex spa potential in Europe, gathered on a small area in the immediate vicinity of the built perimeter of the city, consisting of lakes with chlorosodium water, sapropelic muds of a therapeutic nature, salty clays and the best preserved old salt mine on the European continent… ”(Dr. Gh. Simionca).

In 1946, I. Todor inventoried 85 lakes in the Băilor Sărate area, but many of them disappeared as a result of the natural clogging or backfilling of the lake basins with terrigenous material.
The Medical-Spa Guidance and Control Commission of the National Institute of Recovery, Physical Medicine and Balneoclimatology considers that the chlorosodized mineralized water of these lakes is of therapeutic interest in the following diseases:
– chronic degenerative rheumatism (osteoarthritis of the spine, hip, knee, foot);
– biologically stabilized chronic inflammatory rheumatism (rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis);
– abarticular rheumatic diseases (tendinitis, tenosynovitis, bursitis);
– post-traumatic disorders of the musculoskeletal system;
– chronic peripheral neurological disorders (peripheral nerve injuries).

Regarding sapropelic muds, the therapeutic indications, in the external cure, are the following:
• prearthrosis conditions (prophylactic treatment) in professions with arthritic risk;
• degenerative rheumatism;
• allergic conditions after active or infectious focal rheumatism;
• abarticular rheumatism;
• disorders of the peripheral nervous system;
• musculoskeletal sequelae after trauma;
• gynecological diseases.

The recommended method of application is through warm anointings and wraps.
Therapeutic spas and medical recovery care for patients with present suffering, who need a complex treatment, followed by a strictly individualized program, established and controlled by the doctor, based on a complete diagnosis of the disease, its stage and phase. evolution.
Turda Salt Mine is located in the Durgău-Valea Sărată area with a microclimate and sanogenic factors that offer optimal conditions for application in the recovery therapies of various internal diseases as well as in prophylaxis and sanogen
