Cheile Turzii Nature Reserve is located 13 km from Băile Turda. The access from the resort to Cheile Turzii is made by car on DN 75 Turda – Câmpeni until the exit from Mihai Viteazul locality and then, on the right, through Cheia village until near the entrance to the gorge. Cheile Turzii stretches along the Hășdate brook for a length of 3.5 km. High and steep walls, towers, buttresses, karst plateaus and caves in the gorge dug by the Hășdate River in Jurassic limestone create a unique spectacle. In 1938, Cheile Turzii acquired the status of nature reserve, and currently appears in the U.N.E.S.C.O. among the most important monuments of nature in the world.
Only five kilometers from Băile Turda resort are Cheile Turenilor. The gorges have a length of 1,850 m, and the walls (100-150 m high) are decorated with different karst forms: waterfalls, pots, caves, etc. I’m relatively hard to get through. They were excavated by Valea Racilor in Jurassic limestone and are located between Tureni commune and Copăceni village, a short distance from the European road E60, Cluj – Turda.
The Arieș Valley stretches for a length of 164 km upstream of Turda and crosses the counties of Alba and Cluj. The Transylvanian river springs from the Bihor mountains and flows into Mureș. The gorge crosses Țara Moţilor, an area with beautiful landscapes with mountains with gentle ridges and charming valleys, with an Aries with waters in shades of green, blue, yellow, red that it takes depending on where it passes, season or weather, with gentle and welcoming people keeping ancestral traditions and customs.
The Arieș Valley is an excellent option for a weekend trip to visit some objectives of ethnographic, geological, speleological and historical interest.
The resort of Muntele Băișorii is 54 km from Băile Turda. The view is wide, open to the Transylvanian Plain, and in conditions of good visibility can be admired the mountains of Maramureş, Țibleş, Rodna, Călimani and Făgăraş and in exceptional conditions, even the High Tatras.
